ON SALE — “Changing the Narrative” Comics Anthology Available from Street Roots Vendors
The Portland State University’s Collaborative Comics project has partnered with Street Roots to publish an anthology of comics on student homelessness. Ten artists contributed “Changing the Narrative” and Street Roots has published a series of interviews with each artist. Street Roots vendors will sell copies along with this week’s edition at a variety of locations throughout Portland. There’s also a fundraising drive already underway to publish a second volume and an exhibit of the art contained in the anthology will run February 12 and 13.

TBA — Federal Trial Against Protestor Simona Bearcub
Anti Repression PDX is asking for community members to call in and listen to Simona’s trial, as well as gather outside the Mark Hatfield US Courthouse to support Simona. Simona was target for police violence and arrest at multiple protests during the George Floyd Uprising. Because trial times and call-in numbers change frequently, make sure to check their blog post for more details as those details become available. Disclosure: I’ve organized a GoFundMe to support Simona financially.
4:00 p.m. — Oregon State Treasury Online Auction of Unclaimed Property
The State of Oregon’s treasury department is holding an auction of unclaimed property from abandoned safe deposit boxes to benefit the Common School Fund. The auction will be live and online. Items are already listed for pre-bidding on the auction site. Treasury department officials note that program staff attempted to contact listed owners in advance. Certain items, such as military medals, will not be sold. You can check if the State of Oregon is holding any property on your behalf on the Treasury’s website.

Free Transit — TriMet Makes Public Transit Free All Day in Honor of Rosa Parks
In honor of Rosa Parks’ contributions to the civil rights movement, TriMet has made public transit free on Friday. Of course, TriMet could always choose to make public transit free every day.
12:00 p.m. — A Place Called Home: From Vanport to Albina
The Lake Oswego Public Library is hosting a virtual screening of oral history documentaries from the Vanport Mosaic living archive, followed by a dialogue facilitated by Bruce Poinsette, co-chair for Respond to Racism LO. The screening will be held on Zoom and attendees must register in advance. The Vanport Mosaic’s traveling exhibit, Vanport: A Story Lived. A Story Told. will also be at the Lake Oswego Public Library through February 8.

DEADLINE — Oregon Psilocybin Community Interest Survey
The Oregon Health Authority is conducting a survey to learn more about Oregon residents who may be interested in both accessing psilocybin services and working with psilocybin. The survey is available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and three other languages. In the meanwhile, the Oregon Psilocybin Advisory Board is holding regular meetings to create recommendations for and guidelines for providing psilocybin services in Oregon.
2:00 p.m. — DSA Forum on Strike Solidarity
The Portland chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America are holding a forum on solidarity with strikers. Labor journalist Jonah Furman will be on the panel along with local Portland DSA organizers. The forum will be held online and attendees must register in advance.

DEADLINE — The Oregon Health Authority’s Application for New Members of the Advance Directive Adoption Committee
The Oregon Health Authority is recruiting new members to serve on the State of Oregon’s Advance Directive Adoption Committee. Members typically serve a term of four years and are eligible for per diem compensation. OHA is specifically looking for applicants who are members of the Oregon State Bar and have experience with health law, as well as applicants who have experience advocating for individuals with disabilities. The application process requires completing an interest form, providing a resume and bio, answering supplemental questions, disclosing conflicts of interest and completing a background check.
5:00 p.m. — City of Portland Open House on the Montgomery Park to Hollywood Streetcar Project
The City of Portland is hosting two virtual open houses (the second is on February 10) to share a draft plan to extend the streetcar to Montgomery Park in the Northwest District neighborhood. The plan also proposes a second phase extending streetcar lines to the Hollywood neighborhood. The extensions are intended to promote development. The open house will be held on Zoom and attendees must register in advance.
